The problem

Counterfeit notes don't just cost banks. They cost the people who accept them.

When a fake note gets through, it's usually a small business, a market stallholder or someone selling their car privately who wears the loss. Genuine notes have strong security features, but checking them properly takes practice, good light and time that most people don't have at a busy counter.

Last 4 years has seen $6,238,879 in 720 detections of fake notes by the Australian Border Force.

How It's Built

AUDScan is built by a small team in Sydney using a privacy-first design.

On the phone: a lightweight AI model runs directly on the device, so checks work quickly, work offline and keep images private.

In the cloud: we're building the services that sit behind the app:

  • training and improving our AI model, including when new note designs are released

  • the backend for AUDScan for Business: accounts, device management, dashboards and reports

  • secure analytics to help us improve accuracy and reliability

Where We're At

We're building AUDScan in four stages:

  1. Prototype — core AI model and app design (done)

  2. Public beta — free app for iPhone and Android

  3. Launch — full release in the App Store and Google Play

  4. AUDScan for Business — paid tools for cash-handling businesses
